07 Nov Demand for the Extra Virgin category drives all sales of olive oil in Spain
Sales of olive oil in Spain increased by 9% in the first eight months of 2020 compared to last year, according to data published by the National Association of producers and processors of edible oils (Anierac).
232 million liters of olive oil were sold. Of these, 11.4 million liters were extra virgin olive oils, which is 12.7% more than in the previous agricultural year. Sales of refined olive oils also increased by 3.3% this year.
The increase in sales of extra virgin olive oil is in line with the trend of healthier eating and home cooking – one of the most positive consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, which changed the life of the whole of Spain in February 2020. Their daily diet is already recognized as the healthiest in the world, and the average life expectancy of Spaniards is 82 years. Even so, they try to make the diet even better. We can only take an example.
