19 Jan How nutrition preserves hearing
Researchers found that daily healthy eating, like the famous Mediterranean diet, reduces the likelihood of hearing loss of medium and high frequency. These are the frequencies that we use to perceive speech, so this is very important.
It is widely believed that hearing loss is an inevitable part of the aging process. However, by examining potentially variable risk factors, that is, things that we can change in our diet and lifestyle, scientists can argue that hearing loss can be prevented or delayed.
Data collection for as many as 20 years showed that women who most closely followed healthy diets had a 30% lower chance of hearing loss of average frequency. They also had a 25% lower risk of high-frequency hearing loss. In addition, the studied people, on the whole, were aging slower and easier, less likely to develop diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
