18 May April fair in Seville
In spring seems like everything is possible! Or it doesn’t seem?!
In Spain the arrival of spring, like any other significant event, is celebrated as a multi-day fiesta. The Seville fair, Feria de Sevilla or Feria de Abril is a long-awaited holiday, one of the most large-scale and noticeable at this time of year. It is a meeting spot for all the residents of Seville, the neighboring cities and villages, and for tourists who have had the luck to be in Seville these days – an unprecedented holiday and immersion in the Spanish culture.
The very first fair has taken place in 1847 and lasted three days. With cheerfulness peculiar to them, sevilets have turned sale of horses and bulls into a fiesta, and over time it was necessary to separate the place of trade of animals and other goods from the area for entertainment. Today the Seville fair is one of the largest holidays in the country for which a whole artificial city from festive tents with illumination from half a million bulbs is created! Besides, only here it is possible to see traditional dances Sevilyanas and bullfight with participation of the best toreros of the country!
